Kasim Sulton singer/songwriter
Kasim Sulton singer/songwriter
by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Oct.15, 2010, under Home
Sunday Night Oct.17,2010 on Rockers In Recovery at 9PM EDT singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton will be interviewed on his new CD release coming in 2011 and how you can be on the cover and much more it’s called “The Project”.
A highly coveted sideman, singer/songwriter Kasim Sulton is recognized and respected the world over for his work with other artists, including Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Hall and Oates, Patti Smith, Patty Smyth, Mick Jagger, and Celine Dion to name just a few.
His level of involvement has ranged from playing bass, keyboards, and/or guitar, to adding vocal harmonies, singing lead, and contributing as a songwriter, to producing entire albums, as he did with the Meat Loaf VH-1 Storytellers CD, released in 1999. There isn’t much he hasn’t done in his 25 years in the music industry.
In April of 2001, Sulton began showcasing his own music for the first time since the early 80’s release of his self-titled debut album. He scheduled a few solo acoustic shows in his home state of New York. They were to be small, quiet shows just to test the waters, but word quickly spread and fans traveled from miles around to show their support. Enthusiastic fans welcomed him with open arms, and venues were soon asking when he’d be back. The overwhelming success of these early shows prompted Sulton to hit the road for a full tour that summer. Armed with just an acoustic guitar and some stories from his past and present, he played his way across the U.S. including stops in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, and Milwaukee. In Chicago, Sulton made an appearance at the Guitar Center where he met with fans, signed autographs, and posed for photos. In Rochester, he made a similar appearance at The House of Guitars, played a stellar concert at The Little Theater, and was asked to stay in town a few extra days to sing the national anthem before the start of the Rochester Red Wings baseball game at Frontier Field; an honor he graciously accepted.
Up next on the agenda, was to be his completing the new CD.
However, this would have to wait, as Sulton’s talents were in demand once again – this time, as bassist and musical director for a European tour with Meat Loaf. The “Night of the Proms” tour consisted of 47 concerts in Belgium, Germany, and Holland over a period of three months, stretching well into December. By the time the tour was through, it was Christmas.
Upon returning to the U.S., Sulton continued working on his CD while gearing up for another six-week solo tour to test out a few new songs before live audiences. The tour began February 1st and saw him visiting many new markets, including Boston, Washington DC, Albany, and Detroit. In Westerly, Rhode Island, Sulton appeared on a network TV special. Radio stations WJJO/Milwaukee and WCSX/Detroit welcomed him to their airwaves for live interviews while he was in town, and print media was supportive in every market he played. The 21-date tour wrapped up march 16th with a standing-room-only show at The Bitter End in New York City.
A few weeks later, Sulton signed an independent recording contract with Sphere Sound Records, based in Rochester. Now he will be focusing on his own music. “I’ve been wanting to record a CD of all new material for some time now,” says Sulton. Now that time has come.
As one of the most in-demand players in the business, Sulton will still answer the call when asked to perform with other artists; so don’t be surprised to see him onstage from time to time with Meat Loaf, Tommy James and the Shondells, or any other artist lucky enough to enlist his talents to enrich their performances. But after years of playing with others, Kasim Sulton is finally giving his own music the center stage it truly deserves.

The Band Rhetoric blends rock ‘n’ rhythms !!
Rhetoric has gone from rocky start to rock solid.
A rotating lineup led to some bumpy beginnings for the North Broward-based band, formed in 2008. But change has been a good thing, leading to a permanent crew who’s formed a tight bond and an equally tight sound.
“It’s a good, comfortable fit,” frontman Rocket Miceli said. “The three of us, it’s like it’s meant to be.”
Rocket supplies lead vocals and guitar for the alternative/grunge group, with bassist Jorge “Dread” Peres and John “JP” Porpora on drums. The trio has created a cohesive unit, blending rock rhythms with blues, funk, jazz and ska.
It’s been a totally unexpected ride for Rocket.
At the group’s first show, they took fourth place out of 12 entrants in a Fort Myers battle of the bands competition.
There were still some kinks to work out, however.
Now, everything’s gelling. “We’re like brothers,” Dread said.
The guys have cut back on performing to record a self-titled debut disc, due to drop this summer or early fall.
After the album’s release, Rocket said the group will return to their hectic show schedule, including their regular gigs at the American Rock Bar in Deerfield Beach and Tobacco Road in Miami.

Patrick Duff Music Review
Patrick Duff Music Review
by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Jul.06, 2010, under Home
I taught myself guitar and started playing and singing on the street for money when I was 17. I didn’t know how to play anyone else’s songs so I made up my own. Sky songs. I never wrote any of them down and I can’t remember anything about them.
“Get in the back of the car you’re gonna be a pop star” that’s what some man shouted out at me one day as I walked down Stokes Croft in Bristol. That man was David Francolini. I got in his car and he introduced me to Alex Lee. Me and Alex got drunk and dropped acid and stayed up all night playing guitars and that was Strangelove. Me, Alex, Julian, Joe and Dave and then John and then Nick. We got signed after 5 gigs to Food/Parlophone/EMI. We toured around UK and Europe a few times with firstly Radiohead and then Suede. Played with the Manic Street Preachers, had a string of top 40 hits, played on the main stage at Glastonbury and Reading, recorded in Studio 2 at Abbey Road where the Beatles did all their albums. I saw my band on the countdown of Top Of The Pops. We did 3 albums and split up in 1998 after 7 years together.
After that I walked around in Leigh Woods, which is a forest outside Bristol, for about 2 years. When I came out of that I had handed my life over to songwriting completely. Then I went to South Africa to write songs with an 83 year old black woman shepherdess called Madosini. I had seen her play at Womad festival and her edgy ancient blues music blew my mind. Madosini had lived in a village in Trans-sky. She had sat playing music on the side of a hill for 70 years before being discovered by Womad. Then me and Madosini toured around doing our thing.
After returning I started writing new songs. Which went on to make up my album called Luxury Problems. The first part of the album was recorded in the middle of nowhere in a cottage in Dartmoor which belongs to Nigel Shaw and Caroline Hillier. This part of the album was produced by Adrian Utley (Portishead). Back in Bristol and Bath I completed the album with Alex Lee producing and recording at Moles studio with Paul Corkett. The album features some of the most amazing musicians, Damon Reece (ex-Spiritualized), Mike Mooney (ex-Spiritualized) and Jim Barr (Portishead). It was released on EMI’s Harvest label on 21st June 2005.
I’ve now written a new album of songs which I will record and hopefully release this year. I run a songwriting workshop which is open to anyone in the world who can make it and it is amazing!
I am happy to be part of the website http://www.patrickduff.com/ and look forward to meeting you.
Love Patrick
