Addiction Recovery
Sound Pillow®…A holistic approach to relax the Mind…Body…and Spirit
Many folks in early addiction recovery suffer from stress, anxiety, and fear causing long, sleepless nights. Sound Pillow helps sufferers through these periods of unease and restlessness to reach a state of relaxation and achieve the rejuvenating effects of a good night’s sleep. This personal audio device provides recovering addicts the ability to get a comfortable night’s sleep by providing a calming, soothing distraction from disturbing thoughts and silences “The Voices” in the head. Sound Pillow allows the mind to shut down, the body to relax, and the spirit to heal.
Sound Pillow Meditation can be a powerful tool in relapse prevention, becoming what one therapist called “a positive addiction providing a healthy alternative to addictive behaviors.”People in long-term recovery report that meditation provides new insights about the source of their cravings, resentments, and fears. Let Sound Pillow become a daily recovery tool regardless if you’re a newcomer or in long-term recovery.

A Father’s Call

A Father’s Call « Holistic Lifestyles Radio

A Father’s Call

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Apr.08, 2011, under Home

As you know, over the course of the last fifteen years; I spent hundreds of hours talking to clients and customers, doctors, clinicians and counselors servicing all walks of life in a variety of fields. I have invested a great deal of emotional, physical and financial resources as well. From a purely “business perspective,” there has been little to no ROI (Return on Investment); at least not financially.

So why do I keep it alive? Why is it still available and evolved into the Sound Pillow Sleep System? Because I believe that God places people on our path at the right time. In many cases, He sends them to us when we need them most. We just have to be willing to recognize and listen to the message. How does this apply to the Sound Pillow? This is the second installment in the Three Phone Calls series: Stories of my experiences with three unique individuals of which I had three profound conversations.

A Father’s Call. In late 2009, Ron W. called. That morning Ron was sitting in a waiting room, waiting for his physician to discuss his Tinnitus. While in wait mode, Ron stumbled upon the Sound Pillow in Tinnitus Today and called us to see if we could help.

About 10 minutes into the conversation, he suddenly switched gears on me and started talking about his daughter Angela. Angela had just been picked-up off the Ohio streets. She had run away over two-years earlier and turned to prostitution to support her heroine addiction. The story of Ron’s two-year search and his emotional discovery of her condition, were moving. My daughter was six and I just did not want to try imagining myself in his shoes…Thinking of my daughter, I was compelled to do something nice for Ron and his daughter Angela. So I sent 20 Sound Pillows to the Darlene Bishop Home for Life, with zero expectations. I was just compelled to do it.

A couple of weeks later I received a letter from Beth Ward, the Director of the Darlene Bishop Home for Life. She stated “The Sound Pillows are a huge success!!” – I had no idea what she meant, the Sound Pillows were just gifts to a group of ladies that I thought needed a morale boost. So, I called Beth and was amazed to learn the girls were sleeping and they were sleeping well.

Because of a Father’s Call, I started working with clients in various stages of Addiction Recovery. We have tested the Sound Pillow Sleep System, with phenomenal success, at G&G Holistic Addiction Treatment Center, Palm Partners, Sunrise Detox and Destination Hope. The results were wonderful. The vast majority of the client’s were getting a meaningful night’s sleep. Meaningful sleep is healing sleep and it improved their moods, their outlooks for success, they were much more relaxed and in many cases, even more pleasant to be around. We will be posting the results to the Sound Pillow web site soon…Stay tuned.

You can read Beth Ward’s letter now at www.SoundPIllow.com. Just click on the Addiction Recovery Tab and scroll down a little. If you or someone you know could use a good night of healing sleep, give us a call at 877-846-6488.

Hot Off the Press! Results of In-Clinic Testing of Sound Pillow® Sleep System Are In

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Mar.14, 2011, under Home

Two Rockers and the Sound Pillow: Very Cool

For the past six weeks we have been testing the new Sound Pillow Sleep System in several Addiction Recovery Centers. These in-clinic tests were made possible through the cooperation of: the National Institute for Holistic Addiction Studies (N.I.F.H.A.S.), G&G Holistic Addiction Treatment Center, Palm Partners, Destination Hope and Sunrise Detox. And to say the results were eye opening would be an understatement. Here’s what happened…

Each of the centers received 5 – 8 Sound Pillow Sleep Systems consisting of: an MP4 Player Pre-Loaded with 14 ½ hours of binaural music, natures sounds and affirmations from Dr. Harry Henshaw, Ed.D., and a Sound Pillow. The centers then selected clients to test the sleep systems. Each client slept with the sleep system, for two weeks. After two weeks, the clients completed a questionnaire rating the Sound Pillow’s comfort and sound quality, how much they liked the music, how relaxing the system was and most importantly…the overall quality of their sleep. Their counselors also complete a questionnaire about their client’s mood, attitude and overall outlook of success. Neither the client nor their counselor saw the answers provided by the other (double blind study).

The results and feedback are amazing…91% of the clients believe the Sound Pillow Sleep System will help them through their recovery journey. And 97% would recommend the system to others in addiction recovery. Why? Because the system allowed the clients to not only fall asleep, but to STAY asleep! And because they stayed asleep, they completed sleep’s critical-healing cycles: Deep Sleep/Slow Wave Sleep (SWS) and REM (Rapid Eye Movement). So they were in better moods which improved their attitudes which led to a better outlook for success, not to mention they were nicer people to be around.

These results were reiterated by the fact that…100% of the counselors (21 total individuals) reported they would recommend the Sound Pillow Sleep System to other addiction recovery centers. Why? Because their clients slept which put them in better moods which allows for more productive communications which leads to more meaningful interactions which will lead to better results in the short and long haul.

Want to see the evidence for yourself? Send me an email: Scott@SoundPillow.com. I will send as many of them to you as you like. And if you are ready for a meaningful night’s sleep, visit the web site at www.SoundPIlllow.com. And do it soon as the Sound Pillow Sleep System is being introduced for only $78.88 through May 31st. That’s $20.00 off through May.

Rick Derringer

BY STEPHEN PETERSON SUN CHRONICLE STAFF

FOXBORO – It was a night to enjoy some good ole rock ‘n’ roll from numerous well-known musicians, raise money to fight addiction and celebrate recoveries.

The 3rd Annual SuperGroup 2010 Rock & Roll Concert packed them in Saturday night at Showcase Live at Patriot Place to benefit Right Turn Addiction Services, an Arlington-based program offering assistance to artists in recovery from drug addiction and other mental health issues.

Over four hours, artists such as gifted guitarist Rick Derringer, guitarist Elliot Easton of The Cars that hailed from Boston, drummer Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Rhode Island bluesman James Montgomery entertained.

A highlight was special guest Ernie and the Automatics, which features the band Boston’s former guitarist, Barry Goudreau, and its ex-drummer, Sib Hashian.

The six-member blues rock group out of Boston, half of whose members went to Berklee College of Music, includes Michael “Tunes” Antunes, the saxophone player for Rhode Island’s John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, and that group’s “Darkside” was played. A treat, a medley of Boston’s hits, including “More Than a Feeling” and “Long Time,” closed the hour-long set to a standing ovation.

Keyboardist/lead vocalist Brian Maes, who has played with Peter Wolf of Boston’s The J. Geils Band, was quite impressive, as were their new songs, including “Apple Hill” and “There Ain’t No Friends in Rock ‘n’ Roll.” The band’s debut album came out last year.

Guitarist/music director Ricky Byrd led the music throughout the show, having played with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Roger Daltrey of The Who. Byrd and Richie Supa, who has been a songwriter for Pink, Aerosmith, and Bon Jovi, appeared together for a couple of acoustic songs they had written about recovery, having been sober for over two decades.

“We lost Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Bonham, Keith Moon, we lost a lot to addiction,” drummer Woody Giessmann of Boston-based 80’s group The Del Fuegos told the crowd. In 2003, Giessmann founded Right Turn, and told of losing his brother to addiction and himself being a recovered addict.

The 19-member supergroup showcased Mott the Hoople’s “All the Young Dudes,” the gem “Train Kept A-Rollin’,” Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?,” Leon Russell’s “Delta Lady,” David Bowie’s “Suffragette City,” Geils’ “Looking For a Love,” and The Rolling Stones’ “All Down the Line” and “Tumbling Dice.” Montgomery sizzled on harmonica and Tim Pike of The Soul Band burned on vocals. Keyboardist Jeff Kazee of Southside Johnny and Bon Jovi stood out a few times.

Rounding out the supergroup were bassist Kasim Sulton of Meat Loaf and Todd Rundgren/Utopia, exceptional guitarist Johnny A, as well as Scott Aruda, John Aruda, and Paul Ahlstrand on horns. Rosemary St. George, Erin Vulgamore and Hayley Jane were backup singers, the latter who gave an intense rendition of 1960’s pioneer female rock band The Shangri-Las’ “Remember (Walkin’ in the Sand)” that Aerosmith covered.

Derringer played his usual tribute to veterans, “Hang on Sloopy” – his No. 1 hit with the 60’s group The McCoys, and ended the night with an extended version of his 1973 killer, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Hoochie Koo.”

Unable to appear due to a last-minute hospitalization was noted guitarist Leslie West of Mountain. Also, Lynn Hoffman of A&E’s “Private Sessions” was supposed to host but a radio station disc jockey filled in.

There was also a live auction, and a painting of Elvis by Ron Wood was among the donated items.

THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION (1) « Holistic Lifestyles Radio

THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION (1)

by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Jun.01, 2010, under Home

Is there an antidote for addiction?

Yes! That’s the good news.

Here’s the bad news!

What if – you had to drive ten miles EVERY DAY to get the antidote?

Would you be willing to drive the ten miles?

Before saying “Yes, I want the antidote,” let’s explore this a little further.

You have to ask yourself, “How bad do I want it?”

This isn’t a trick question.

Addiction has its rewards.

Are you ready and willing to walk away from the “safety” of your solitary prison where you don’t have to – feel any pain – from the outside world; where you don’t have to grow, or change?

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. In starting our recovery journey, all we have to do is – take one step away from our solitary prisonsby “connecting” with people who have been where we are, people who will walk the journey of the thousand miles with us – every step of the way. Here’s the wisdom passed on to us the 100 original members of A.A.:

The tremendous fact – for every one of us - is that we have discovered a common solution.

We have found – a way out - from the slavery of addiction, on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action.

This is the great news the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, carries to those who suffer from addiction. (An appropriate title for the book could possibly be – The Antidote For Addiction – more than 150 Twelve Step Programs are built on its foundation)

Nearly all of us have – recovered. We have SOLVED the addiction problem.

The physical cravings, along with the obsessive thoughts and compulsive feelings to use pills, alcohol, or drugs, have been – removed.

They do not exist for us.

We are neither cocky, nor are we afraid.

This is our experience; this is how we react, so long aswe stay in fit spiritual condition. (A. A. Page 17, 85)

Today, make a fresh start. Read the Doctor’s Opinion. Renew – your spirit.

Namaste, (The light in me “honors” the light in you.)

THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION – WHAT IS AN ANTIDOTE? By Jack Kelly

by hollis on Jun.18, 2010, under Home

An antidote is:

“A REMEDY to counteract a POISON; something that works against an – evil or unwanted condition.”

Based on your knowledge and experience, on a scale of 1 to10, rate the effectiveness of the following antidotes.”

During the first 20 years of Alcoholics Anonymous, 1935 -1955, the recovery rate was around 75%. (A.A. P xx)

The “key” to their success could probably be summed up in a few sentences:

The spiritual life is not a – theory. We have to live it. We are not cured of our addictions. What we have is a daily

reprieve “contingent upon” the growth and maintenance of our spiritual condition.”

(A.A 85)

WHY ALL THIS EMPHASIS ON THE SPIRITUAL?

It is based on the – experience – of the 100 original members of A.A.:

1. You may be suffering from an illness which only a – spiritual experience – will conquer. (A.A. Page 44)

2. AFTER the spiritual illness is overcome, we straighten out mentally, emotionally, and physically. (A.A. P 64)

3. Our real purpose is to become “spiritually fit” so we can be of – maximum service – to God, and the people God puts in our lives. (A.A. Page 77)

Namaste, (The light in me “honors” the light in you.)

Richie Supa’s Last House On The Block Will Début On Holistic Lifestyles Radio’s “Rockers In Recovery”

Richie Supa At Rally For Recovery 2009 Photo By Rick Smith

Legendary Rocker Richie Supa has four decades of music under his belt and is ready to release “Last House On The Block”. “Last House On The Block” will début on Holistic Lifestyles Radio’s “Rockers In Recovery” on WWNN 1470 AM Radio at the End of June beginning of July 2010.

“God had control of the pencil on this one” said Richie Supa as we spoke about the new release of “Last House On The Block” and how it brought him to tears while producing the song. Richie is a man of deep talent and love of others as we can feel in songs like Amazing” (1993), co-written with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

Richie Supa has been a behind-the-scenes voice in the legendary rock band Aerosmith for years. Richie Supa additionally, helped co-write several songs, including the hits “Chip Away the Stone” (1978), “Lightning Strikes” (1982), ” and “Pink” (1997), among others.

Richie Supa co-wrote most of the songs on Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora’s second solo album Undiscovered Soul. He also wrote the song “Misery” for the album Missundaztood by Pink, on which Aerosmith’s singer Steve Tyler and Richie Sambora collaborated and co-wrote the song “My Interpretation” from Mika’s debut album Life in Cartoon Motion.

Artists who have cut Supa’s songs read like a who’s who of the music industry, with over 50 million records sold. Artists who have recorded Supa’s songs include Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Ozzy Osborne, Mika, Pink and legendary artists such as Johnny Winter, Tom Jones, Air Supply, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, to name a few. Richie’s songs have appeared in Disney movies, feature films and on network television, including the hit show Melrose Place Read more: http://www.myspace.com/richiesupa#ixzz0rJgAWjiy.

Richie’s release of the song “In The Rooms” dedicated to the Social Media Site www.intherooms.com won the 2009 Prism Award. I believe Richie Supa is working on his second Prism Award with the release of “Last House On The Block”. “Rockers In Recovery” looks forward to the Début of “Last House On The Block” and we thank Richie Supa for choosing “Rockers In Recovery” radio show on wwnn 1470 am radio for the Début of another Richie Supa hit. So stay tuned for more information towards the end of June or the beginning of July 2010. Check for updates at www.holisticlifestylesradio.com
